Hummie's World, Filter challenge, lesson 16, watercolour filter

This has been my thought process thisafternoon, LOL! I chose a good photo to work with, it seems, as the filter really worked well on it!!! The top one is my first try, done as the class was taught! Then I had another go and enlarged the photo, and I think this gives a much more obviously watercolour effect. Then I had to try again with different settings in the filter to make it all darker. Enlarging the photo again, I liked the effect and then changed a blending mode on one of the 4 layers of the photo to remove the colour. Brought in just some of the colour from the original photo to a level I liked. Then I used 2 papers by Hummie (FREE here for a llimited time only http://blog.hummiesworld.com/2011/02/fern-clyffe-state-park-illinois.html ) and changed the blending modes to use them like overlays and bring in a little of their gorgeous colours to the 'scene' I had in front of me!! I was going to leave it as a plain abstract, but then thought of putting a fairy or some such within the 'cave' that had appeared :) Looking through my stash I came across this gorgeous dragon by Creative Victorian Designs (Winter's Deep kit available here http://creativevictorian.com/boutique/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=129&products_id=1728 ) so went with that! The green fireflies (or sparkles with a gaussian blur added, LOL!) are from Bits n Bobs Babe-alicious kit available here http://exquisitescraps.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=8_150&products_id=1684 .

Thanks so much to Hummie for making this class and inspiring me to play like this - I had SO much fun!!!

Hummie's World, Filters Challenge, lesson 12 - bas relief

Interesting filter this one, but one I had to use in a very subtle way to be able to live with the result, LOL! This has 2 layers of photo...one with the bas relief filter applied and an overlay blending mode. Beneath that is a textured plain paper from Weeds and Wildflowers - Cherish kit - and above is the original photo with a multiply blending mode. This gave an old photo kinda feel to the page and yet allowed a little of the colours of the original photo to show through!
Thanks Hummie!

Hummie's World, Filter Challenges 10 & 11 - Stamp & Motion Blur

Had such fun playing with these! The top one has 6 layers of the photo, each with different blending modes and 3 with different colours and the stamp filter applied! The 2nd has 4 layers of the photo, with different angles and ranges of motion blur applied, as well as 2 textures by Kim Klassen (warm grunge and live, laugh, love) and a solid black layer in overlay mode for good measure, LOL!

Hummie's World, Filter Challenge - Mezzotint

I was hoping this photo would work well with this filter, and I wasn't disappointed!
Loved playing with this! I used several layers of the photo, added a gradient map layer to change it to a sharp b&w, then changed some blending modes, including one layer using 'dissolve' to give an added snowy effect in the sky! I selected the b/g to add a medium dotted mezzotint, and then long strokes on the tree and on the 2 border layers - this really helped them merge into the page and continue the texture to the edges!
Thanks Hummie!

Hummie's World, Filter Challenge - Glass

LOVED playing with this!
Added a texture and loved the effect but then couldn't see the glass effect! So I duplicated the photo and added it in overlay mode above the texture. Then I went back and added glass blocks to just the background of the bottom photo...LOVE the added depth that gives to it, esp. around her chin!! I used frosted on all of the 2 photos initially btw.

Hummie's World, Filter Challenge, Lesson #5 - Photocopy

I put a coloured version under the photocopy and reduced the opacity so it just gave a hint of colour!

Hummie's World, Filters Challenge, Class 4 - Diffuse Glow

What a difference a filter can make, eh?!!!! LOVED playing with this filter! Top is the original photo, and after a good play, and with 3 layers of the photo with a pink, white and then dark grey diffuse glow applied, then changed blending modes and opacities, my finished page!
I'm loving this Filters Challenge course...am always itching to see what the next one will be, LOL!!

Hummie's World, Filters Class, Lesson 3 - Colour Halftone

Same photo, same filter, just 2 ways of doing it! The top one of for my book of these lessons' LOs and is 6x4. It was created using the shape tool. The bottom was just for fun really and used the brush tool. Love the different effect, but I need way more time for playing with this as I feel I've only scratched the surface of what's possible!

CT LO for SnickerdoodleDesigns by Karen using Grungy Stripe Overlays (CU)

Well! Who knew how much fun stripes could be?!! LOL!!!
I used 3 different striped overlays and 2 Painted Wood layer styles to create this b/g! All with different blending modes and opacities to achieve this effect that I liked best!
This is the photo I changed so much thanks to Hummie (go look at Hummie's World - fantastic, inspirational place!!) and her Filter classes! Didn't think I'd be able to use it on a page, but once I'd created this b/g, I knew it was the photo to use! Had to multiply it about 8 times to get this depth, but I LOVE what I made, LOL!! This quote seemed so appropriate, as I almost didn't feel like it was me creating this...it was as if something within me were dictating the depth of colour and effect of the overlays and styles! Must be my soul then! hence the title of this piece - A Trapped Soul.

Hummie's World, Filters Class - Coloured Pencil

I am SO pleased with this page!! I've toyed with this filter before but never used it, so this lesson gave me the impetus to actually sit and play!

Just fancied doing something a little different, as this filter is such a different look! had a good play and in the end used 2 copies of the photo to make this effect. The bottom copy I blended into the white b/g using select inverse delete with a big feather of 225ish and changing the blending mode to linear burn. I then duplicated that and lowered the opacity to 94% and clipped that photo to the other to maintain the blended edges. Then I gently erased (on low setting so it didn't show too much...I didn't want all the top photo b/g erased, just wanted to make it receed) the background to make the flower stand out a little more. And that was it!

The flower was in Charles Darwin's garden at Down House!!

Hummie's World - Filters Class!!!!

I'm so excited this class has started! lesson 1 - Lens Flare! kept it subtle to be true to the original photo, and made myself leave it as is, with just a little reduced saturation and brightness added along with the lens flare...such fun!!!
This flower was growing in Charles Darwin's garden!
